Below is a list of questions that we frequently hear from our clients.
Why do I need a CCTV system for my home?
CCTV systems have been shown to be an effective deterrent to any potential criminal activity and in the event a crime is committed you will have recorded evidence that can be used in a police investigation. CCTV systems can also be used to keep an eye on elderly family members or young children to ensure their safety, household pets or your valued possessions.
How can a CCTV system help my business?
As stated above the first benefit as a deterrent to criminal activity but additional benefits include product control, trespassing, theft, Work Cover evidence and reducing or even eliminating security patrol costs.
What is the difference between a Digital CCTV and an Analog CCTV system?
Digital IP CCTV cameras provide a much higher image quality and also only require a single CAT6 data cable to be connected to the onsite NVR as they are POE (Power Over Ethernet) compatible. Digital CCTV systems also provide the ability to log in remotely via PC, tablet or smart phone. Analog CCTV systems require power to each camera location, the image quality is not as good and you can only access the recorded footage onsite.
Do you install wired or wireless CCTV systems?
We install wired CCTV systems to ensure maximum reliability and performance. Wireless CCTV systems whilst easier to install are prone to drop out with weak Wi-Fi signal and the requirement for mains power at each camera location or batteries to be replaced/recharged at regular intervals.
Are the cameras weather/vandal proof?
The cameras we install are IP67 weather proof and IK10 vandal proof with an operating environment from -30deg Celsius up to 60deg Celsius. This ensures all cameras we install are suitable for outdoor installation.
How long can I record footage before it is overwritten when the hard drive is full?
The CCTV system storage is scalable meaning we can install a single hard drive with 1TB capacity right up to multiple hard drives with 8TB capacity each. Most installations are calculated to provide at least 1 month of recorded footage before the oldest footage is overwritten in 10 minute blocks.
How do I view the CCTV cameras remotely?
Via a PC, tablet or smart phone with a free easy to use app. You will only require an internet connection to access remote viewing.
What do all the megapixels (MP) mean?
Megapixels identify the camera capture quality. The higher the number the more detail is preserved giving you the ability to zoom in on recorded footage with less image quality loss. See below for easy reference
- 2MP = 1080P HD
- 4MP = 2 x 1080P HD resolution
- 8MP = 4K UHD
What types of cameras are available?
Our supplier Dahua has a huge range of CCTV cameras perfect for all situations. Dome cameras, bullet cameras, panoramic cameras and pignose cameras are all available in both wide angle fixed and zoom lenses that will allow the technician to frame the area or zone being captured exactly as you require it.
Can additional cameras be added to the CCTV system in the future if required?
Yes, our installations are designed to be modular allowing for maximum flexibility to add or remove cameras and even upgrade storage capacity if required.
I have large trees/bushes that sway in the wind and I don't want to fill my hard drive with recordings triggered by this motion, can you help?
Yes! Our technicians can set 'dead zones' on each individual camera so the motion sensor is only activated by legitimate movements. We can also black out sections of the camera feed so neighbouring properties don't have any privacy concerns should a camera overlook another property or private zone.
How do I get the recorded footage off my NVR hard drive?
Via a USB stick, USB external drive or even via the app you use to remotely view the cameras. If you need professional assistance to export the video our technicians can always visit and assist you onsite should the need arise.
What happens if there is a break in and the thieves steal the NVR and hard drive?
The CCTV system includes the option to pay a small monthly or annual fee to have 1 month of footage automatically backed up to the cloud for this exact circumstance.
I really want to deter potential criminal activity but I don't have the budget right now for a CCTV system, what can I do?
Our technicians can supply and install a range of CCTV 'dummy' cameras that look exactly like the real thing and even come with a blinking LED for authenticity. Your home can be protected for a fraction of the cost of a real CCTV system.
